Where it all begins at the Raiders. Minis are players from U6 to U9, this is where boys and girls learn the fundamentals for rugby union. Staring with the U6 and U7 age groups playing a non-contact game. This form of rugby is for the complete novice who is under 8 years of age. Players compete in a non-contact "2 handed tag" based game that focuses on ball handling and running skills. Similar to Touch Rugby, this 7-a-side game played on a quarter sized field is designed to combine basic skills with Rugby Union concepts in a fun environment, suitable for both male and female players.
As the children’s skills levels progress the more technical approach there is to the game, with the U8 and U9 teams being introduced to scrums, tackling and line-outs and the game is played on a half size field. At U9 level there is an increase in the number of players to 10 per side.
Minis teams train weekly at Bantry Bay Reserve and play in non-competition games. These games are run jointly by Manly and Warringah Rugby Unions.
