Raiders have been involved in girl’s rugby since 2017. We pride ourselves at the club on a focus on girl’s skills development and safety combined with girls social engagement. We also have many girls who play representative rugby for district and state teams.
We will host a pre-season social for parents and players in mid-February which is a great opportunity for the girls to reconnect and also to welcome new players to the club in advance of competition training and play. During the season, there will also be opportunities for some non-rugby based activities which are created using the input of our girls.
Whilst playing competitive rugby is always a goal, we aim for rugby to be a fund experience at the club and work with parents and players to develop an environment of engagement on and off the field.
Please see competition details below.

There are three competition options available for girls aged from Under 11s (turning 11 during the competition year) to Under 17s & Opens. In certain circumstances, Under 9 and Under 10 girls may be assessed as capable to play in the Under 11’s older age groups. A great way for younger players who are not comfortable play up in age group is to join the “Minis” competition.
The competitions are in the format of 10-aside (as a proxy for the traditional larger VX’s game) or 7-aside (7’s is generally a faster paced game).
Competition Dates for 2024:
- 10-aside competition: runs from end of April to the end of June
- Frosty 7’s competition: runs from beginning of August to mid-September
- Spring 7’s competition: run over three weekends during October and November

10-ASIDE COMPETION
The 10-aside competition is an excellent opportunity for girls to play a larger format of the game with more structured forwards and backs play. This is a Sydney-wide competition with teams from Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17. The competition is run over 8 rounds of play with an additional Finals weekend to complete the season. Games are played on Sundays and the times will vary by age group.
Registration for the 10-aside competition is available on the registration page and you will need to select “X’s” as the game option. Registrations are expected to close early April.
GIRLS 7S
The 7s competition is run in two shorter seasons: Frosty 7’s and Sizzling 7’s.
Frosty 7s is a 6 round competition with an additional finals weekend to complete the season. Typically, teams play two games each week and games will be played on Sundays with the times varying by age group.
Spring 7s is a 3 round Gala format competition held in October and November. It is great for girls who still haven’t had enough rugby or for girls where other sports have conflicted with prior season play. Typically teams will play 3-4 games per weekend.
Registration options are available for one season or for both seasons as a package. Registration for the 7s competition is available on the registration page and you will need to select “7’s Girls” as the game option and select the appropriate options.
Minis
Minis is a mixed competition where girls aged Under 9 or below can play in order to develop their rugby skills. Please see the link below for more information on the Minis. If your daughter is 10 we can discuss options on what age group to play with.
parents
Of course, we cannot run a great program for the Girls without input from parents. We welcome involvement by all parents in the various roles we need to run a successful club and create a fun experience for the girls. We have roles available on the Girls Rugby Committee for Socials Development and Player Recruitment. At a rugby functional level we are always in need of Coaches, Team Managers, Assistant Referees (line-runners), and ground Marshals.
If you are keen to contribute to the above please contact the VP Girls Rugby below.
